Language and Culture Café

MRANG is running a Language and Food Café event as an opportunity for women in the community to share and celebrate their language and food in a safe, women only environment. Hosting 10 women who are refugees or asylum seekers in Liverpool and 10 women from the local area who will share language language and culture through a food themed event.

The event aims to equip women with new skills, celebrate food from different cultures, support community cohesion, reduce social isolation and encourage new friendships. Women will be split into groups and given prompts and activities to encourage them to start teaching each other their language and creating pages for a recipe book. No previous language skills would be required and everyone would be given the opportunity to teach each other new skills;

1)      Participants will teach the rest of their group words for different foods in different languages

2)      Participants will discuss the recipes they have brought with them and the types of foods they enjoy or have enjoyed eating and cooking.

3)      Each group will create pages for a recipe book, writing the text in different languages and with pictures in order to make each recipe as accessible to women speaking different languages.

Thw women will be able to take a copy of the book home at the end of the even. Refreshments and cakes would be served as the will take to form of a café for the day.
